If you do not have a mobile plan unlimited, it is very easy to tap into its data and end up with a bill astronomical at the end of the month.

Before subscribing to a package mobile, it is very important that you do a estimate of your data usage.

You use your data when you watch videos in Youtube or chat on Facebook, but not only.. Some applications, such as your e-mail, use your mobile data en the background to refresh and get updated.

It is possible to change that, thanks to Google Play and to the different features of your Android. These manipulations you will be able to update your apps via a Wi-Fi only and have better control of your consumption.

1 – update your application with the Wi-Fi only.

See you in the Google Play Store.

.
Tap on the three horizontal lines in the top left.

.
Select Settings at the bottom of the menu.

.
In the section general Settings, tap auto-update apps.

.
Finally, scroll down and select to automatically update apps over Wi-Fi only.
.

2 – completely Disable your mobile data.

From your home screen, drag your finger from the top to the bottom, and then select Settings.

.

Thus, the connection to the internet will only be via Wi-Fi, and not through your 3G connection/4G.

3- Set yourself a threshold.

For even more control, you can set a limit for the period that you want.

It is also possible to enable an alert to warn you when you approach your threshold.

Under Mobile, go to billing Cycle.

Go to Settings data Usage.

.
Under Mobile, go to billing Cycle.

.
Select billing Cycle, then change the reset date of the cycle of use.

.
Confirm by pressing Set.

4- Limit the use of data in the background.

If you want to, you can — for each of your applications — only turn off the mobile data used in the background.

Go to Settings Applicationsselect your application, in this example Gmail.

.
Tap on data Usage.

.
Finally, disable background Data.
.

Now, your apps update only over Wi-Fi.

Note that after this manipulation, the applications like WhatsApp, Facebook or Gmail will not send notifications.

Otherwise, you can install apps specifically designed for saving data.
For example, the application Twitter Lite, the lightweight version of Twitter, should according to the brand use 70 % of mobile data in less than its predecessor, and occupy only 3 Mb of storage space.
In addition, its energy-saving mode of the data, you would only load the images and videos you want to see.

For the moment, Twitter Lite for Android is in the testing phase, it is not yet available in France.
