iTunes is the multimedia player from Apple. It is a powerful tool with many features. Follow our guide to discover and learn to exploit them.
Note that this guide is based on the version 220.127.116.11 iTunes on Mac.
If you have a Mac, you must have iTunes preinstalled. You can check by going to Applications, or do a search with Spotlight.
Once found, we advise you to drag and drop into your Dock, for quick access.
However, if you are using Windows, go to the page to download iTunes, and install it.
To perform an update d’to iTunes, go to theApp Store icon and click on Updates (at the top left of the window).
If you do not find the one dedicated to iTunes, do a simply search.
Add music and videos to your library iTunes .
Open iTunes, and then agree that the application is looking for a song, video to play in your computer. This will have the advantage of speeding up the creation of a music library.
To add a song or music :
Go to File, then Add to library.. (or by simultaneously pressing the keys Cmd and O).
Make your choice, and then click Open.
If you purchase music from the iTunes Store (iTunes → iTunes Store, top right), they will be automatically added to your library.
If you have purchased from a different device, it will be enough to re-download, no redemption shall be required.
To see what you just added :
Choose your category of Music or Film, by clicking in the drop down menu under the icon to Play..
Click on the recent Additions, in the left menu.
Customize your iTunes library.
You have the option to reorder the songs in your iTunes library as you see fit.
To rename a song, click it, and then after a short time, once the title highlighted in blue, you can enter a new name.
If you want to edit more data about a song, select your title, and then, simultaneously press and hold the buttons Cmd and I.
In the pop-up window that opens, you will find all the information about the selected track (artist name, album title, ..), most of them are under the tab Details. It is even possible to enter a comment.
You want to add a cover to an album ? Stay in the same pop-up window and click on the second tab named Illustration.
Then, either drag-and-drop an image saved on your computer, you click on Add an illustration (bottom left) and select your new coverage.
With time, the music building up in our iTunes library, and it is not uncommon to end up with duplicates.
To help you sort it out and free up the space, iTunes has a feature that is specific to the duplicates. You just need to follow the path : File → Library → Display duplicates, and then delete them.
Where is saved my iTunes library ?.
The location of your library varies depending on your version of iTunes and macOS.
Generally, it is located in Finder → Go → Start → Music → iTunes → iTunes Media → Music.
Otherwise, you can always perform a Spotlight search by typing in Music, for example.
How to play a song or video on iTunes ?.
There is nothing more simple ! Go to your library and double-click on the song you want to listen to.
During playback, right-click on another song and choose the option to Add as next song. Thus, the two tracks come thick and fast.
For there to be a waiting time between the two songs, select Add to waiting list.
If you have a later version than ours, you’ll have more options to read.
Options of presentation.
In the menu on the left, the options Artists, Albums, Songs and Genres are categories in which your songs are re-arranged.
Click on Albums, then press Cmd and J, a window called display Options opens.
It gives you the choice between a List view or Grid. By default, your albums are sorted by alphabetical order of the names of the artists, then the album’s title.
On the other hand, if you click on the Songs and the keys Cmd and J. The window layout Options will contain much more detail. Each checkbox corresponds to information to be attached to your song or video (date added to your library, the date of purchase on iTunes, or the episode number).
Also, if you want to change the order of your ranking, click on the small arrow(^).
Create your playlists with iTunes.
Your library contains enough songs to create a playlist ? Then it is time you started, here are two ways to do this :
At the same time press the keys Cmd and N.
Select Add to Playlist, then New Playlist.
Now, assign a name to your Playlist (in our example “New Playlist”).
It will be located automatically at the bottom of the menu.
To add more songs, simply drag-and-drop, or right-click and select Add to Playlist.
Playlists smart are auto generated by iTunes ; they are easily recognizable by their icon gear.
iTunes can create according to your rules, a sort of criteria of preferences.
To do this, click on File → New playlist intelligent (or use the shortcut Cmd, Alt, N). Finally, select your rules that iTunes will have to comply with to create your New playlist smart.
To add, click on the icon +located to the right.
We recommend that you set up a limit so that your playlist is not too overloaded.
It remains for you to confirm with OK.
