If want to be anonymous online or access blocked sites in your country, then there is nothing like a VPN. We will explain here what is a VPN and how to choose and how to use it.

What is a VPN ? .

A VPN, or “virtual private Network” in proper French, is a system that allows you to send and receive data across a private connection (often referred to as ‘tunnel’), while passing through a network the internet.

Using a VPN allows you to limit the risks of being monitored online, which is especially useful when you regularly connect to a public WiFi network.

As the VPN can hide the geographic location of a computer, many individuals use it to visit sites that otherwise would not be available in their country.

For example, imagine that you are a French language travel abroad and you want to watch videos of the platform Pluzz, Arte or Netflix France. You can install a VPN on your computer, and pretend that the latter is located in Paris, and enjoy all the television programming is in French.

In a professional setting, the VPN are often used for security reasons (to avoid being spied on) or to allow employees to access their computers remotely.

How to use a VPN ? .

Each VPN has an interface that is specific, but the process described below is very similar from one program to the other.

The first thing to do is to use a VPN is to subscribe to a service (logic). In this example we use NordVPN.

Once you’ve created a user account and that you have downloaded your VPN, launch the program by double clicking on its icon.

The VPN will then display the names of the countries in which their servers (this may take the form of a list or a map).

Choose the country you want to virtually move your computer and connect to a server (on NordVPN, just click on the big button at the top of the window).

Please note that most VPN now have a Kill Switch (circuit breaker), that is to say that if by chance your VPN connection would not longer be secure, then your computer is automatically disconnected from the server.
