Windows 10 has sounded the return of the Start Menu, which is a very good news.. except when he bugue. Fortunately, there are various techniques to resolve this problem, we organized from the simplest to the most complicated.

Back up your files .

Before anything, back up your important files on a Cloud or on an external hard drive. If you do not know the reason of the bug, it might be more serious than you think. The safety (of your files) in the first place !

Restart .

In many cases, a simple restart is all that your computer needs to get unstuck. Where the age-old question of it professionals : “Have you tried restarting your computer ?”

Be aware that you can restart your computer several times. If, after two or three stimuluss, there is nothing to arrange, or if you need to restart your computer frequently, then follow the steps below.

Update Windows 10 .

If your operating system does not automatically update, you can do that manually, even without access to your Start menu.

– Open your Settings by simultaneously pressing the keys Windows and i .

– If for some reason the first shortcut doesn’t work, you can supportr on Windows and r, type ms-settings: in the command bar and press OK.

Once the window Settings is opened, go in update and security and click update or Correct the problems (if this message is displayed, as shown in this screenshot).

If an update is available, install it and restart your computer.

Create a new user account.

A way to bypass temporarily the problem of the Start menu is to create a new user account, and from this solve the bug.

Press the keys Windows and r and then type Control Panel.

Select user Accounts Change the account type Add.

There are several options available to you, you can either create a user account Family is a classic account, as you wish.

The command-line utilities .

Note : don’t forget to back up your files before continuing.

Scan File System .

Scan File System is an utility that, as its name indicates, allows you to scan your computer for potential problems and other bugs. You can access it from your task Manager.

– Press CTRL + Shift + Esc to open the task manager.

– In the top left, click File then Run new task.

– In the window that opens type CMD, check the box create this task with administrative privileges and then click OK.

– You will be taken to a page of the administrator command that displays c: \windows\system32>

-Type the command sfc /scannow and press Enter.

So, once Windows has reviewed your files, the message “windows resource protection found files damaged and has been repaired”, close the window and restart your computer. Your Start menu should refonctionner.

If, on the other hand, the message indicates that the corrupted files could not be repaired, you need to run another command.

In the window, type, respecting the spaces : DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Note that this command is sometimes a long run, so don’t hesitate to go stretch your legs in the meantime !

When the process is finished, you should have a message telling you that everything went well. To be sure, you can repeat the command sfc /scannow.

If, in spite of all the above steps, you still encounter problems with your Start menu, it is necessary to pass a more drastic action.

Reinstall the apps Windows.

The process for réinsitaller the apps Windows is very similar to Scan File System.

– Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC to open the task Manager.

– In the top left, click File then Run new task.

– In the window that opens type CMD, check the box create this task with administrative privileges and then click OK.

– You will be taken to a page of the administrator command that displays c: \windows\system32>

-Type the word powershell and press Enter.

– Copy and paste the following command in the same page : Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

– Press Enter and let the process unfold.

Do not worry if an error message in red appears. Once the command is finished, you can close the window and your Start menu should be operational again.
