Interface of the router .
You want to change the settings of your router ? To do this, you must go to its web interface.
If each internet service provider (Orange, SFR..) with its own interface, the procedure to access it is the same for all.
In this tutorial, we use the operating system Windows 10, but the steps are the same for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Vista.
Before you begin .
To open the web interface of your router, you need to have an internet connection.
If your Wi-Fi does not work, use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to your router.
Find the IP address .
To access the settings of your router, you just need to know the IP address.
This is usually listed on the box of your router or directly on top of it. Please also have a look in the installation manual of your box.
If you do not find the IP address of your router, perform the following step. Otherwise, you can ignore it.
From a command prompt .
It is possible to find the IP address of your router using the command prompt of your PC.
Type Command in the search bar of the Start menu or use the shortcut Windows Key + R, type cmd and press Enter.
In the command prompt, write ipconfig and press Enter.
A list of network adapters appears. Your IP address is the number associated with the default Gateway. Copy the.
For your information, most IP addresses are in the following formats :
192.168.1.254 (for BT Home Hubs)
In very rare cases, you will need to add a port number to your IP address. For example, 192.168.0.1:443.
Connect to the interface of your router .
Once you have found your IP address, open an internet browser (Explorer, Chrome ..) and copy your number in the URL bar of it. Press Enter.
From the web interface of your router, you can change many settings : enable/disable Wi-Fi, change your password and the name of your network, change the security protocol of your network,..
Note that you may need your id to access some of the advanced settings.
Check its connection settings .
If you are unable to access your router from your browser, check your settings for your networks. Your IP address may have been entered manually.
To check, open your control Panel, click Network and Internet and then click View network connections.
Check its connection settings (2) .
Right-click on the network you use (Wifi or Ethernet) and select Properties.
Scroll down the list that appears to find Protocol Version 4. Click it and then click the button Properties.
Verify that the check boxes for Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are checked.
Now, repeat the steps described previously.
Other things to check .
The interface of your router is an internet site. Therefore, if you are still unable to connect to the interface of your router :
– Temporarily disable the firewall of your antivirus.
– Disable your parental control.
– Use a different internet browser.
To reset your router .
If you have customized and then forgot your user id, the password of your network or two, you can reset your router to factory settings. You will only have to use your username and password by default to connect to it
Attention : Resetting your router will delete all your settings.
The router of different internet providers vary, but you should find top of the button RESET. If it is as on the photo above, it is best to use a hairpin to achieve it (nothing that can get stuck or break).
Check your user manual to find out how long you have to stay pressing the Reset button.
