Apple is known for its watches and connected the Fitbit for its bracelets of activities, but their differences fade with the addition of features to the Fitbit and application health to the Apple Watch Series.

Apart from the Ionic and the Versa 2, little Fitbit have applications that you can find on watches connected. However, their design, their functions fitness are quite comparable and close. Apple and Fitbit are both great products, your choice depends on the features that interest you most.

In our article, we will compare the Apple Watch (Series 3 and Series 5, the 4 is no longer sold by Apple) and the Fitbit Charge 3, Fitbit Versa 2 and Fitbit Ionic. We focus on the functions that health and fitness are, of course, they offer much more than that.

Follow-up of physical activity .

Keeping in shape is not necessarily synonymous with marathon or gym. Be active during the day is already beneficial for your health.

The Apple Watch and the bracelets Fitbit are perfect for you and encourage you to move more.

The Fitbit and Apple Watch suited to both people who want to measure their daily physical activity athletes.

Note, however, that, due to the absence of GPS, the Apple Watch 1 has not really been able to appeal to the riders. This defect has since been rectified. Now the Apple Watch has not only a GPS, a processor much more powerful than the previous models, but also a connection to 4G, so that you can use without having to take your iPhone when you exercise.

The Fitbit (with the exception of the Versa Lite Edition) are equipped with a barometric altimeter and synchronize the data collected with the scales connected to Aria. Consequently, the Fitbit in the fitness, sport performance, cardio, etc

Fans of racing on foot preferred the Garmin to the Apple Watch, until the second-generation watches Apple does not include a GPS, like the Fitbit Ionic.

Then, the Apple Watch Series 2 has been replaced by the 3 and 4, which have faster processors and better battery. Each has been available in a version with 4G built-in, so that you can use without having to take your iPhone when you exercise.

With the Apple Watch and the Fitbit Ionic, there is no need to take your smartphone during your workouts. Both have a GPS, store music, and can be used as a means of payment without contact.

If physical exercise is at the heart of products the Fitbit to the Apple Watch it is that one of its features.

The Apple Watch has two apps devoted to the sport : Activity that relates to the health, well-being, daily routine, and Exercise, measure your workouts (running, cycling, and walking).

All data collected by the watch can be viewed on your iPhone via the app Activity or Health. The latter offers a better overall view of your health, because it integrates multiple sources of data (and not just the ones from your showing).

Bracelets Fitbit is compatible with iOS, but if you want to integrate their data with the Health app of your iPhone, you will need to use a third-party application, such as Sync Solver.

When you stay too long without moving, the Apple Watch, just like the Fitbit sends you a notification to encourage you to move.

The watch from Apple is compatible with apps from other developers, and its partnership with Nike is still news.

Set goals : the Fitbit the fact.

The big difference here is that with Apple you can not you set goals or other measures, with the exception of the loss of calories. If burning calories is not your main goal, the Apple Watch won’t be very useful otherwise.

In comparison, the Fitbit allows you to set specific goals such as your steps, distance traveled, calories burned, your activity by minutes, floors climbed and your objective schedule of activity.

Heart rate monitor.

To measure your heart rate, the Apple Watch and some of the Fitbit use the photopléthysmographie. Behind this term barbaric is hiding a principle, almost straightforward and little different from the taking the pulse manually.

With the help of green LEDs placed at the back of their dials, these watches detect the volume of blood that circulates in your wrist and the size of your blood capillaries. They record the fluctuations of the latter and deduce your heart rate.

Bracelets Fitbit-equipped to measure your heart rate 24h/24, 7j/7. They can store your heart data in a second interval when you hit the gym, and a five-second interval in the idle mode. According to Fitbit, the bracelets Ionic and Versa are more accurate than other models because their LEDS are in contact with the wrist.

The Apple Watch, it measures your heart rate every 10 minutes during the day and in a discontinuous manner when you use the app Year.

Thanks to the system watchOS 4, Apple has improved its heart Rate as it measures your heart rate at rest and in the recovery period.

The Apple Watch Series 5 works under watchOS 6, it includes new features such as the App Store (to download from the wrist), the Health hearing (a measure of the ambient noise), or Trends in Activities (track of your progress over time).

Finally, Fitbit has announced that its models Ionic and Versa 2 have a heart monitor enhanced because its LEDs are more in contact with the wrist than other bracelets.

The Apple Watch has the ability to detect and alert you when your pulse is too high at rest. The Series 4 and 5 to monitor any irregular rhythm and will alert you to this via the app ECG.

Fitbit has caught up with the firm at the Apple with the integration of FibriCheck (application belgian) that checks your heart rate, it works with the Fitbit on OS 4.

Calories .

Bracelets Fitbit and the Apple Watch can make an estimate of the calories than you spend daily.

The Apple Watch determines the number of calories burned by using data collected by the application Activity and heart Rate. The more you wear the watch, the more it knows about your habits (level of daily activity..) and more it is accurate in counting calories.

The watch Apple differentiates between the “calories out” (calories burned just for the basic functioning of your body) and the “calories active” (those burned through physical activity). We prefer this approach to that of Fitbit, which mixes the two.

Fitbit estimates the number of calories you burn based on your basal metabolic rate calculated using your height, weight, age, and sex. To be more precise, bracelets with a heart monitor to take into account the data of the latter.

Fitbit calculates calories since midnight, and includes calories burned while sleeping – which is not possible with the Apple Watch, which must recharge during the night.

Follow-up of sleep, the best in Fitbit.

A good night’s sleep reduces the risk of getting sick or gaining weight.

The Apple Watch does not have a app to monitor the quality of your sleep because it needs to be charged every night. It is possible to install a third party application but in this case you need to charge the watch during the day, which is anything but practical.

However, the autonomy of the battery of the Series has been enhanced so that they can (in the case of basic use without the GPS) to take 3 full days and 2 nights.

With the Inspire, Inspire HR, Lite Version, Charge 3, Versa 2, and Ionic, you can estimate the quality of your sleep and track each of its stages : light sleep, deep and rem (dream phase).

Let’s be clear, the results do not have the accuracy of an electroencephalogram, but they give a good overview of your sleep thanks to the fluctuations of your heart rate.

Applications : Fitbit unbeatable on the fitness, Apple on all the rest.

The applications Activity and Exercise, Apple have a very nice design but the app Fitbit has an undeniable advantage, of being available on all operating systems (iOS, Android, and Windows). The dashboard of the app is complete, detailed graphs, stats ..) and you can organize the collected data as you wish.

For applications of non-fitness, only the Fitbit Ionic can stand comparison with the Apple Watch, and more. So, if you want to use many applications (outside of sport), the Apple Watch (or an equivalent Android) will be more adapted to your needs.
